Chet Baker Chet Chet plays (doesn't sing) some of the great ballads of jazz and is accompanied by such great soloists as Herbie Mann flute Ppper Adams bs Bill Evans p, Kenny Burrell g Paul Chambers b Philly Jo Jones d or Connnie Kay d

John Coltrane Coltrane for Lovers Recordings 1961 - 1963. Vocalist Johnny Hartman comes close to Billy Eckstine on "My one and only love",on "They say it's wonderful" and "Dedicated to you" Duke Ellington (!) plays the piano at two sessions. The other pianist is McCoy Tyner.

Miles Davis Love Songs Some old ones from 1957-1963 plus "Time after time" and "Human nature" both from 1985. An excellent compilation spanning three decades illustrating Miles' mastery in handling ballads old and new... "And miles to go before I sleep."

Stan Getz Getz for Lovers I'm not sure whether the four Latin numbers, among them "Girl from Ipanema", are the best of these 1963-1968 renditions. So what! Look at the pianists: Hank Jones, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Duke Jordan. And Astrud singing!!

oops ... something new after all!! a new voice in jazz.... Who would have thought the album would win 8 (eight) Grammies!! (March 2003)
